There she is, in all her glory. Betsy, the 1993 Saturn- the only car Matt has ever owned!
We took her 2355 miles to Anchorage, and then another 100+ miles to reach our final destination. Betsy started the journey with about 179,000 miles already logged. Amazing! Matt and I are seriously considering writing to the CEO of Saturn. SUVs and fancy new cars be damned! Betsy rules!
The trip was long but beautiful. We started out from Noel and Michelle's house in Seattle on the morning of July 1oth. On that first day we made it to somewhere in B.C., close to Prince George, at a campground on Green Lake. It was very dark and a little scary...especially considering the fact that we had no idea where we were going. On the way in to the campground, there was a dude standing by the side of the road that sorta lunged at our car as we drove by. Yikes! Shortly after that we saw a sign that said "Rural Neighborhood Watch". Uh-oh. In Canada? Bummer. We made a decision to keep going, at least to check out the campground, and the further we drove, the better things seemed to get. I saw decorative mailboxes and somehow that made us both feel safe. Don't ask why.(?)
Once we got to the campground- it was about a 1/2 hour drive off the main road, we were surrounded by a gorgeous lake, a sky full of stars, a huge half-moon, and peaceful silence. We decided to stay the night. As we started to unpack and set up camp, Matt came to a disturbing realization: he forgot the tent poles and his sleeping bag! Oops!
So, we all slept outside under the stars, sans tent. Really, who needs a lousy tent anyway? And Matt discovered that sleeping bags are overrated, as long as you can wear all of the clothes you have and use your dog's blanket to cover up...so cozy!

Betsy rules indeed! So glad you kept on driving until the mailboxes passed the cute standards. but mostly glad you didn't sleep near the lunging man. what a great adventure. This all makes me a bit envious, but really happy for you.
Love the blog, Mom
When you got Shasta with you... no need to fear the lunging lunatics!!
