We went to Valdez after McCarthy and have absolutely no pictures. Why, you ask? It was raining the ENTIRE time. Oh, well. Both of us really wanted to check out the town, and rain is just part of the deal here. We did have a drink at the "Pipeline Club"- the famed bar where Captain Hazlewood tied one on before boarding the Exxon Valdez. Yuck. That bar was the most depressing place I have ever been, and we got out of there as soon as we could. Maybe it was the history of the town that clouded my judgement, but it was kind of a rough place to be. Anyway....onward and upward! On our last night of vacation, we were able to stay at this great log cabin:
The cabin was part of the National Park Service, and it sat right in view of the Matanuska Glacier. Here is the view from our back porch:
View from inside the cabin:
Here is Matt playing a little banjo on the back porch, enjoying the bits of sunshine we had that day:
And Shasta, enjoying the sunshine in her favorite way: a nap. Or maybe Matt's banjo put her to sleep?
All in all, we had an incredible week exploring Alaska. It was really fun to get off the
Kenai Peninsula and check out other parts of the state. I hope you enjoyed the pictures!

I have so enjoyed the trip. Great photos. Great postings. Everything came through. But the fingers on the banjo were moving so fast they are blurry. Too bad.... No blur on Shasta.
